IL CINEMA RITROVATO
From June 24th to July 2nd, Cineteca di Bologna hosts the 37th edition of Il Cinema Ritrovato film festival, 9 days of screenings and meetings all around the city. A selection of the very best restorations realized over the year by public and private institutions will be presented both in 35mm and digital formats during the festival. Among these, several films recently restored at L’Immagine Ritrovata.

ISHANOU

Restored by the Film Heritage Foundation at L'Immagine Ritrovata laboratory and Prasad Corporation Put. Ltd.'s Post - Studios, Chennai, in association with Producer and Director, Aribam Sam Sharma and Manipur State Film Development Society.
Funding provided by the Film Heritage Foundation with the generous support of Dr. Richard Meyer and Susan Harmon.
Ishanou has been restored using the best surviving items: the original 16mm negative held at the National Film Archive of India and two 35mm copies held by Aribam Syam Sharma.
The sound was digitized from the 35mm acetate print and the color grading was supervised by Aribam Syam Sharma.

The restoration was carried out by the Cineteca di Bologna Foundation in collaboration with Surf Film, from the original image and sound negatives.
The restoration was carried out at L'immagine Ritrovata in 2021.

The 4K restoration was made from the original nitrate image negative and nitrate optical sound negative.
The latter had damaged parts which were filled in with a combined dupe positive of first generation and a positive nitrate print. However, some visual and sound defects persist.

2K scan done at Image Retrouvée/L'Immagine Ritrovata in 2023.
The main element used was a 3rd generation mute positive belonging to the Centre Pompidou.

The original 35mm negative, kept by Orange Studio, was scanned in 4K on ARRISCAN.
The digital restoration of the image is in 4K and the calibration was validated in the presence of Ariane Boeglin-Levent and Jean Achache.
The film has been restored in 4K by the L'Image Retrouvée laboratory in Paris.
